Dublin City Council Traffic and Transportation Strategic Policy Committee
Derek Peppard sits on the Dublin City Council Traffic and Transportation Strategic Policy Committee (SPC) on behalf of the Dublin Cycling Campaign. Most transport related proposals are supposed to pass through the SPC for final approval by the City Council.
One achievement was a proposal by Derek Peppard in 2005 to extend the suggested 30Kph zone of O'Connell SDt, D'Olier St and Westmorland St to include the central shopping area from Parnel Square to St Stephen's Green. This was voted through. It took about 3 years to implement. Hold ups included the NRA having rights to declare O'Connell Street as a national route which could not therefore have a 30Kph speed limit.
That larger 30Kph zone is now being extended further to increase its size and take in gaps like Dame Street.
